A few years back, we were hired by a company to conduct a market fit assessment. The company sold a special cell phone case, one that protects people from radiation. Very quickly into our market research, their branding issues became clear. They were positioning their cell phone case product among other cell phone cases. They looked like other cases, they were priced competitively, and yet they were struggling to move inventory. Because we learned that the average user buying a cell phone case doesn't give a moment's thought to cell phone radiation, we recommended they try something new.

Instead of positioning themselves in the cell phone case market, they started positioning themselves in the personal protection market, comparing themselves to airbags and sunblock instead of other cases. We had them double their price, emphasize their key differentiator above all else: that they were the only case proven in independent labs to protect people from the devastating effects of harmful radiation. We even recommended they start selling their product in retail environments that sell niche, high-end products of all kinds (not related to cell phones) to be the only cell phone case among a wide array of products (think SkyMall, not Best Buy).

The move worked. Despite doubling the price, cases were flying off the shelves. Know the market, know your move. We can help.
